The collection consists of three letters written by Florence L. Barclay to Canon Girdlestone, including: 20 Oct. 1910, responding to his letter which praised her novel The Rosary, and commenting that America is printing 10,000 copies per week to meet demand; 21 Jan 1911, thanking him for his praise of her novel, The Mistress of Shenstone, and assuring him that success will not turn her head, due to her faith; 1 April 1912, commiserating about a negative review, describing a cerebral hemorrage that kept her from writing, and affirming her faith.

Novelist Florence L. Barclay was the daughter and wife of clergymen. Born in Surrey, her first novel was published in 1891, but the publisher's bankruptcy inhibited sales; her second novel wasn't published until 1905. Her 1910 novel, The Rosary, achieved enormous popularity, and subsequent novels were also well-received.
